The purpose of the Ultimate Spirits Challenge competition is to identify, recognize and reward those products that stand out in their respective categories, showing superior quality. Multiple panels of the highest-qualified experts blind taste each entry by classification in appropriately grouped flights within each major spirits category, scoring each on the 100-point scale. Products that score 90 points or higher are then evaluated blind once again, in newly-created groupings by a different panel of judges. Top scoring products were then reviewed again to determine a select group of finalists with the category’s highest-scorer being awarded a Chairman’s Trophy accolade.
So imagine how delighted we were to see the results of the gin category in Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2012, held recently in New York. Plymouth Gin won the Chairman’s Tropy with 95 points followed closely by Beefeater 24 with 94, Beefeater London with 93 and Caorunn Gin with 92. Go Gintime Gins!
